Call of Fruity Slot
Based on the pun in the name, I was expecting a humorous slot which was full of gags. Turns out that other than the fruit symbols being dressed in military type gear, there is little in the way of follow up humour. An obvious play on the massively popular "Call of Duty" series of games, Call of Fruity is light hearted, and does have some fun quirks – for example the ‘ready’, ‘aim’ and ‘fire’ as the bonus symbols land.
The design is well done; I particularly like the radar scanning over the spin button. There are 3 possible bonus games, one of which is within the pick-em round and the other a single free spin. This does not sound like much, however you should keep in mind that 3 reels will be entirely wild while this spin occurs.
Like on most Barcrest slots, the graphics are bright and bold – rather than detailed or particularly impressive. The background to this one is military camouflage, with lemons, melons and what could be a red apple all with helmets on the reels. There are playing card symbols, with fonts mimicking the spray-on words of military crates. You’ll also find a banana in a ‘Call of Fruity’ logo, which does come stacked on occasion. When you spin the reels, there is a drum roll with computerized jingles when you hit wins.
The bonuses did take a long time to come in for me. This could have been pure chance, though it did make me wonder how volatile this slot might be. Luckily there is big win potential when the bonus games do it – especially from the ‘Fly by’ bonus.
Setup and Play for Call of Fruity
There are only 10 win lines for this game; these are fixed, though you can adjust your stake per line from a wide range. The smallest spin is just 1c per line or 10c, though it is possible to spin $500 a time. Auto-play has the nice touch of stripes indicating higher ranks as you choose more, the highest default being 50.
The top paying symbols only require 2 of a kind (from the left) to pay out. These are the wild symbol and the call of Fruity logo banana. The wild pays 500 coins for 5 on a line, and 200 coins for 4. The banana pays 250 coins for 5 and 150 for 5. The bananas do come stacked, meaning you can pick up several wins at the same time on many occasions. The wild symbol substitutes for anything except the 2 different bonus symbols, and will often complete multiple wins in this game.
Next on the prize list are the 3 fruits, with the melon and lemon worth 150 coins for 5 and the red one worth 100. Playing cards make up the smaller wins.
Bonus symbols only appear on specific reels. One is a cross between a hand-grenade and a pineapple. This one comes with the ready, aim, fire sound effect on reels 1, 3 and 5. When you get 3 you enter a pick-me game which can lead to the Bombsight bonus game. The other bonus is a plane symbol, which appears on the middle 3 reels. This triggers the flyby bonus. When you get 2 of them the last reel stops while the 4th reel is still going, which is a little confusing the first time.
Call of Fruity Bonus Games
The pick-em bonus involves clicking on one of the 3 pineapple / grenade symbols when all 3 land. You will either get a multiplier of your total stake as a prize, or be sent to the next game which is the Bombsite bonus. Here you choose a bunker which offers a prize, you can either accept this prize, or choose again. You have 3 picks in total, and will be forced to accept the last one if you decline the first 2.
The flyby bonus can be hugely profitable, even though this is over in a single spin. The middle 3 reels become completely wild and reels 1 and 5 spin. Unless you hit a bonus symbol on reel 1, you will get 10 lines each with 4 of a kind. If you are lucky this will include some 5 of a kind wins too.
Call of Fruity – Conclusion
A light hearted slot, rather than one which is overtly funny. The pun in the name might even be the best part as far as the humour is concerned. This is a playable slot, and the bonus rounds are enjoyable – even though there were some big gaps between them hitting. At least the stacked banana / logo symbols gave out some good sized wins on occasion while I was waiting. This is a solid slot, and should have wide appeal, one to check out for yourself soon!
