Gladiators Slot Machine
Sometimes you think the title says it all, that it contains basically all you need to know about the slot game you are about to play. You might be right on some occasions, but it so happens that you would be wrong this time.
Gladiators is an Endorphina game inspired by the legendary warriors of the arena in Ancient Rome, which so far anybody could have easily guessed. You are also probably assuming that said warriors are human beings.
But the thing is that this time around, they are fish. Obviously!
The Mighty Fish Gladiators Are Ready For Battle
Yes, fish gladiators are definitely a thing and you would be foolish to underestimate their abilities as warriors of the sea. Logically then, Gladiators takes place in an underwater arena complete with stone bleachers but devoid of spectators at the moment. The whole background is shaded in light blue, together with the command buttons. The theme is quite uniform and perhaps not as detailed as in other Endorphina creations such as Blast Boom Bang.
The music is just as heroic as you would imagine in a gladiator-inspired production, giving the game a fun and epic feel, which is rather comical since the main actors are actually fish.
And if you were already picturing massive creatures such as whale sharks and the like, think again. We are dealing with bite-sized fish, some of wish you are likely to have had in your plate at some point in your life. It is clear now that Gladiators is going to be a very fun game to play.
Getting Ready For A Merciless Fight
First things first, let’s review how one gets started in Gladiator. Before stepping into the sanded underwater arena, you might want to consider taking a few useful steps to be ready to confront our fish warriors.
Take a look at the upper left hand corner of the game screen. You will find a Coin icon, there to help you modify the coin value of the game in order to suit your favourite gaming style. You can select a value from 0.01 and up to 5 per single coin. It all depends on how many coins you are willing to bet on your next spin, which of course you can determine yourself thanks to the up and down arrows located below the five seafood-covered reels of Gladiators. There are also 21 possible paylines drawn across those reels, of which you can choose any number to activate by clicking the Lines display in the bottom right hand corner. The total value of your next bet will appear in the Total Bet section.
That’s it, hit the Spin button to set the reels into motion and collect your first wins. You can also choose to gamble them once again by clicking the Take Risk button when it appears: you will be given a chance to double your stash by playing a quick guessing card game against the computer. Careful though, as a wrong guess will make all your newly earned coins disappear.
Meet The Contestants
After the usual card-inspired symbols, from 10 to Ace, the paytable of Gladiators gets very interesting. There are five different gladiators vying in the arena, all of them are fish and equally determined to defeat their opponents.
All of them come in full armour suits, helmet included, and wield powerful weapons such as fish hooks and nets, as well as tridents and axes. They all come with different coloured backgrounds (yellow and blue, red and green…) and the mightiest of them all even rides a seahorse-drawn carriage. If you are not awestruck now, you never will be.
Are You Not Entertained?
The two last symbols deserve their own section. The Laurel Wreath, despite surviving remarkably well under water, has another useful property: it acts as the Wild card in Gladiators, substituting every other symbol to form a winning combination – except the last symbol.
Our final actor is a Shark in chains, the aquatic equivalent of the lions to which prisoners were fed in Rome, undoubtedly. It is the Scatter symbol here, and it awards a number of Free Spins depending on how many Sharks show up on screen (up to 50 free games!). The winning gladiator team is determined after each Free Spin, with potential cash rewards at stake. All wins are doubled by default in Free mode.
Behold The Awesome Marine Fighters!
Gladiators has a lot to itself: a very original take on a somehow more classic theme, a genuinely fun atmosphere and many possibilities to win big – especially during the Free Spins.
The overall simplistic and cartoonish design makes it sometimes difficult to differentiate the different types of gladiators, but besides that it is certainly a slot game worth trying for all players.
