Osiris Slot

For centuries the west has always had a keen interest with the culture of the ancient Middle East and Egypt in particular. Since the early part of the 1920s when Harold Carter discovered the tomb of one of Egypt’s most famous Pharaohs Tutankhamun, the world was captivated. With the tales of curses placed upon those who disturbed the tomb, the legend of an ancient culture that believed in an afterlife, death and rejuvenation has been used in numerous stories, songs and films.

That spirit eventually transferred to casino slot machines, and the ancient Egypt themed slots were born. More recently, the tomb of Osiris has been discovered under one of the Pyramids of Giza.  Osiris by Games Lab is a new release to enter the online casino domain. It has a 5 x 3 reel grid that plays with 50 fixed paylines.

What's in a Name?

This game has locking and stacked wilds, scatter symbols that give free spins, retriggers and reel respins all bound in an arena steeped in Egyptian iconography. Using beautifully drawn artwork, the design employs soft focus images to resurrect ancient times to life using the software by Games Lab to keep players enthralled and popping out prizes with an RTP of 97.094%

The reels are transparent in their wooden frame, to allow a glimpse of the magnificent scenery behind. Statues of the god Anubis are in view and everything is heavily decorated with hieroglyphics, the ancient writing system of Egypt. Even the card values used on the symbols can’t escape them and their design is highlighted with a different coloured jewel on each one. Other symbols that get the full Egyptian treatment are the Pyramid of Osiris guarded by the mighty sphinxes, the death mask, and Isis who was the sister/wife of Osiris (yes, the ancient Egyptians were a very permissive lot and he actually married his sister!).

The Secret of the Sands

Bets are placed by moving a slider to the coin value per payline to give the total bet.  Punters can decide to play at low roller limits of 0.50 or rise up Osiris style to the high limits ending at 80 for those who want to sink money into getting bigger prizes out. Play direction is the regular left to right and all the base symbols have reasonable coin values on the pay table. The real money is made in the game features and these are triggered by 3 or more of the scatter symbols. If the feature is triggered, reel re-spins come into play for those reels that don’t have a scatter on them to try and raise the powers of Ausir to the maximum and secure more scatters.

There are 3 feature games which all award 9 free spins that can be re-triggered for even more spins. For 3 scatters, Ausir will play as a substitute x3 wild multiplier. For 4 scatters Ausir will play locked wilds, which are like sticky wilds that lock on each of the free spins. When 5 scatters fall, Ausir combines his previous powers and unleashes them in full force with impressive rewards being possible where on the big wins, diamonds will cascade from the screen in all their virtual glory.

Who's the Daddy?

There seems to be some historical disagreement over who was the father of Osiris. Some say it's the earth god Geb, while others say it was the sun god Ra. We like the idea of it being Ra. Reels of Ra by Kajot is a slot to play for free or for real cash with 5 reels full of symbols of all things Egyptian and 20 paylines to try and match them on. It has a minimum bet of 1 rising to 2000 which is a very high limit for a betting range. Rather than going back to ancient Egypt, this game concentrates on an expedition of discovery with a racy looking archaeologist digging for artefacts and treasures.

The scene is the desert of Giza and the reels and game logo gently sway on the breeze at sunset. The book of the Ra is in the unique position of being both the wild and scatter symbol and when these appear the whole reel grid starts to shake. 3 books will trigger 10 free spins and for this the Eye of Horus and the goddess Isis symbols can turn into expanding symbols.

The Desert Is Waiting for You

It’s nice that there are so many ancient Egyptian themed slots available for history enthusiasts or lovers of all things ‘Mummy’. Osiris seems set out to pay homage to the history, and credit due to Games Lab for developing such a game without losing sight of its role as a slot for fun too. The nice thing is we don’t need a time machine to go back in time as they have sorted that out for us.

Osiris stands out well against what some of the other slots have to offer on an Egyptian theme. It has exciting ways to win with decent amounts available and it is sure to appeal to players with any experience level of casino slot machines.
