Catch Anna Chapman Slots
This slot is unusual for Viaden; I’m not talking about the spy catching theme or unique 3-stage bonus game. There is an extra row of symbols on the reels compared to most of their slots. Instead of the usual 5 reels by 3 symbols deep – this one is 5 reels and 4 symbols. It is based on a story of a glamourous Russian spy (Anna Chapman) who was caught and deported in New York back in 2010. I was not familiar with the name or the story, and had to Google it. There are expanding wilds, and as is the normal setup in Viaden slots, the ability to hit a big wins during normal play.
Once you read the Anna Chapman story, the slot starts to make a lot more sense. The design around the frames has New York on the left (statue of Liberty in particular) and Russia (the Kremlin) on the right. The music is electronic and tries to keep up the feeling of suspense. Symbols on the reels include two different views of Anna and a mixture of spying and enforcement icons. For example a gun, police badge and sunglasses sit with top secret dossiers and spooks listening in. There are some basic animations; the expanding wilds are the main attraction here. Overall this is a great looking slot - and a lot better than many other Viaden titles.
The main bonus game is essentially a pick-em round. This has 3 parts as you try to catch Anna Chapman and prevent her escaping through the airport.
Setup and Play for Catch Anna Chapman
You can select from up to 50 lines on this game. With the expanding wilds on reels 2 and 4 it makes sense to stick with the full amount and reduce your coin size instead. Here you can bet between 1c and 5c per line, giving a spin range of 50c to $2.50c. Auto-spin and the flip a card gamble after win options are available.
The main symbol is the dramatic picture of Anna decked out in black with the full moon behind. This has the outsized win for this game – and is worth 5000 coins for 5. There are smaller prizes for 2 and up.
Next comes the picture of Anna wearing sunglasses, this is worth 2500 for 5 – while the Anna pointing a gun in your direction is worth 1500 for the full set. If these symbols land on reels 2 or 4 they will expand to cover all of the rows and become wild. This can create multiple wins from a single spin.
The spook with earphones comes next at 750 coins for 5, and the lady (might be Anna again, it is hard to tell) is worth 500. The weapons and equipment bring in the smaller wins, taking the place of playing cards. There is also a bonus symbol; you need 3 or more of these anywhere on the reels to trigger the ‘pick-em’ bonus game.
Catch Anna Chapman – Bonus Game
There are 3 rounds to get through, and your prizes will get bigger the further you get. First, you are taken to a break-out screen where you will choose from 5 dossiers. Some of these will let you through to the next round; others pay an instant cash prize. Next you get to choose 1 of 3 airport gates, again, sometimes you’ll move through to the next round. Finally, you have to choose a hiding place – this is the last game and where the bigger prizes are offered.
