Magic Money Slots
Magic Money is a magic show-themed slot game from developer Cayetano Gaming, who are also responsible for titles such as Nudging Gems, Persian Glory and Little Red Riding Hood.
While magic is certainly a theme we’ve seen before, from slots such as Magic Boxes by Microgaming or 5x Magic by Play n’ Go, they usually focus on more mystical elements such as fortune tellers. This might be the magic-themed slot which focuses most on traditional magic shows.
Of course, with that comes major player expectations of the stereotypical magicians tricks and props, such as the black hat, the white rabbit, a glamorous assistant and old school tricks such as cards and sawing a man in half. This is a 5 reel game with a massive 1024 winning paylines available including all the bonus rounds, or 243 on just the base game alone and an RTP rate of 95.36%.
This game was launched in late 2015 and offers a 200 coin jackpot with coin values ranging from .25 to 250.00, a large maximum bet for a comparatively small jackpot. This is a clean, slightly art deco styled game with limited features to complicate the play experience.
Try out Your Magic Powers
The theme here is classic magic show; the black hat, the white dove and the glamorous assistant. Accompanied by some funky art deco fonts and design elements, this is a simple, uncomplicated theme that anyone can enjoy. The backdrop to the reels is an old fashioned stage, with the game taking centre stage, looking out across empty audience seats. Perhaps easier for the artist, we can’t help wondering why the seats at a magic show would be empty?
We’re also disappointed at the lack of a rabbit, or one of those boxes where you can saw people in half. What’s a magic show without seemingly dismembered limbs? The random expanding wilds here all feature the magician himself in various poses and the other symbols consist of a classic black hat, a white dove, a blonde magician’s assistant and a set of standard characters. The music is suitably mysterious and atmospheric but sounds more suitable for someone like David Blaine, at odds with the era the design appears to be suited to.
Unusual Payout Approach
The potential of 1024 winning paylines sounds impressive but bear in mind that this consists of the symbols appearing anywhere on the reels, which is what makes the potential combinations so high in number. This also includes an additional 800 generated using the additional symbols of the feature rounds we’ll come to later. Coin values range from .25 to 250.00.
Most confusing by far is the unusual approach to payouts. From Cayetano’s pay table, we can see that the prizes are not fixed coin amounts but rather multipliers of the stake amount. To make this more straightforward to understand, we set the coin value to 1.0 and have shown in our pay table the amount by which your stake will be multiplied when hitting that particular combination. This ranges from 0.2x for 3 of a low value character to 8x for 5 of a high value character such as the Wild.
Make for the Magician
The only real feature on offer here is the expanding magician wild, which expands both horizontally and vertically to increase your chance of a win. There is no Scatter and no bonus games, making the gaming experience here a little flat.
The main excitement comes in the sheer quantity of winning paylines available, it’s just unfortunate that the payout amounts are so low.
We like the choice of theme for this game but we have to say we’re a little disappointed with the execution; a traditional magic show is something which would have wide player appeal but Cayetano Gaming have really missed some tricks here (literally).
There is plenty of material for bonus games and features but unfortunately we’re left unsatisfied. With the quality of video slots constantly improving and hundreds being released each year, we’re just not sure Magic Money can compete with some of the more advanced options out there.
