Battleship Wild Targets Slot
There’s not another game out there that’s quite like Battleships. Based on the importance of strategy, this game can have you sinking or swimming in a matter of moves. All it takes is one misjudged placement. This is the intensity that Gamesys capture in their slot machine version named Battleship Wild Target.
Although arguably less thought provoking due to the confines of the grid, this one player casino title still has a lot to offer customers. In a similar move to how they approached their Monopoly themed slot machines, you have interactive features that increase the value of the gameplay. These rounds have been designed to bring the original game to life in a more modern way, without having to dust off old board games from the loft. Battleship Wild Target can never beat the real thing, but it’ll certainly make for a good substitute.
Beefed up Design
If you’ve played the original game, you’ll know that there’s not a lot to it aesthetic wise: you have a grey board of two halves, one where you position your own ships and the other where you guess your opponent's. The idea is that you learn where they could be hiding their fleet before they find yours. The more contemporary over the counter examples have had a facelift, but they’re still essentially the same.
That lack of visual impact doesn’t continue into this game though, for Gamesys have given Battleships a much-needed sense of direction. The interface takes on a 4x5 layout instead of the conventional 3x5, and it’s been made to look like the display of a sonar screen. Players can now feel like they’ve on a ship, battling for their lives rather than simply moving pins around a grid. It’s a lot more thrilling, and therefore adds a level of adventure to the game that some may argue wasn’t there before.
Battling for Top Position
When it comes to games like this, only a handful of brands have tried to capture the nostalgia of Battleships, with some taking a wholly different approach than most, like WMS Gaming. Their real cash slot is unlike any other out there, in regards to this theme. They have two grids, one of which offers Colossal Reels, with a style that’s more cheesy nautical than war ready.
Aesthetically speaking, it looks unfinished when compared with the vibrant interface of Gamesys’ slot, and yet WMS have managed to fit in many more in-keeping features.
We’re not saying one is better than the other, we’re just pointing out that there’s plenty of other options. If you have a passion for this game, said to date back as far as the 1800s, then you’ll want to explore all versions of it, warts and all.
Two Parter
If you haven’t played any of Gamesys’ other activities, then you might not be aware of their staple two part bonus. Usually there’s an interactive feature, like in Battleship and Monopoly City Spins, which then lends into a selection of free games. We don’t want to say that they always apply this tactic, but it’s definitely a favourite of theirs.
In this real cash slot you have a board where you place your ships, either by highlighting and dropping them into position or by dragging them. Much like the real life version of Battleships, the objective is to destroy as many enemy ships as possible. As this is a slot machine, you’ll win money instead of a smug sense of victory, with some prizes reaching as much as x4 of your wager. The order of prizes goes like this:
- Carrier = x4 bet amount
- Battleship = x3 bet amount
- Destroyer = x2 bet amount
- Submarine = x2 bet amount
- Patrol vessel = x1 bet amount
On Target
Being fans of a franchise usually means that you’re a lot harder to please than most when it comes to the details; you expect everything to be perfect. The thing is, online games are rarely ever perfect because of their subjective nature, and so we’re often disappointed. As far as our disappointment goes in regards to Battleship Wild Target, we’d say it’s on the low side.
Gamesys have done an exceptional job at making a classic game their own, by giving it a new but acceptable appearance. True, there are still areas for improvement, such as the control panel, but that’s trivial when compared to how it makes us feel when playing. This is a slot we want to play time again, hopefully you’ll feel the same way when you try it out.
