Monopoly City Spins Slots

Having been in the business of making games since 2002, Gamesys know exactly what their customers need, even when the customers themselves aren’t aware. Monopoly City Spins is an example of just that. This huge slot machine is filled with bonus features, unlike its sister slot titled Monopoly Rising Riches. You may be worried that you’re getting another filler casino game, but instead you’re getting a powerhouse of online entertainment.

There are many real cash slots available that skimp on the goods, leaving you feeling deflated and longing for more, but that isn’t what you get when playing with Gamesys. Instead of betting an obscene amount and getting nothing back, here you can bet a tiny sum of money that’ll land you into a two stage bonus round. That’s right folks, the moustachioed gentleman is going to give you lots of chances to leave with a briefcase full of cash, like in the movies.

A Night on the Town

As you’re playing along, you will undoubtedly spot city symbols rolling on by, all of which are helpfully labelled ‘BONUS’. This is the most important tile of the entire game, for it launches the first part of your double feature bonanza. You’ll just need three of the icons in order to trigger it. This may sound simple, but don’t forget that these symbols have to be on the first, third and fifth reels simultaneously.

It might take some time for you to achieve that, but once it happens you’ll be on a virtual board of Monopoly. You’ll be prompted to select one of the tiles to reveal how many rolls of the dice you get, which in turn will allow you to move across the board. If you want the fun to continue, you’ll need to land a double six; when that happens you’ll be offered another chance to reposition your piece.

The aim is to keep collecting properties, just like in the real game, only here the properties relate to the number of free spins you win. There’s a lot of places for you to buy up, which resulting in you working through a series of games with wilds, scatters and additional multipliers included. This is a very busy feature, so hold on for dear life before you get sucked away into the intensity of it all.

Two Tables

When you’re inside the extra spins level, you won’t be playing for the regular tiles but for a whole set of new icons. Not only will you note the differences in the imagery used, but also the contrasting set of monetary values attached to each of the icons. For example, five light bulbs gets you 50 credits, a figure lower than what’s offered in the main paytable. However, both sets of symbols can result in a 500-coinvictory, you just have to get that legendary five of a kind grouping.

You’ll also notice that there are three lots of wild symbols, all of which do the same job as the last, which happens to be substituting other icons save for the bonus tile. We like that there’s multiple chances to obtain wild payouts, for they can be quite considerable, but three seems excessive. This feels like overkill of the special, which in turn diminishes its value and gameplay impact.

Dumbing It Down

Monopoly City Spins has been beyond entertaining because every square of the matrix seems to bring you one step closer to untold riches. But once the shine wears off – which it will – you’re left with an overzealous title that demands a lot of attention. This isn’t a slot machine you can zone in and out of, nor can you neglect it: it demands that you remain responsive at all times.

That sounds like a lot of effort to us, which is why we sometimes play Playtech’s Fei Long ZaiTian as an alternative. The oriental theme is a great escape from the busy textural qualities of the Monopoly grid, not to mention the features are less overbearing. Don’t worry though, you’ll still get the same set of paylines, not to mention lots of free spins, and so the differences aren’t too great a contrast. Think of Playtech’s offering as an easier to play slot, ideal for when you only have a limited about of time to game.

Oh, City of Mine

Having already played Monopoly Rising Riches, we were confused as to what more Gamesys could bring to this franchise; one slot machine should cover all bases, right? After all, this is Monopoly we’re talking about. It has had so many limited edition designs and various revamps that there shouldn’t really be the need for any more extras. And yet we find ourselves wanting to play this title one last time, and so we give it a reluctant thumbs up.
