Mack backs Astros again
Texas furniture store owner Jim ‘Mattress Mack’ McIngvale stands to win more than $70m if the Houston Astros retain the World Series. Bleacher Report Betting shared a video via X Sunday of McIngvale confirming the bet:
According to the Las Vegas Review-Journal, the high-stakes bettor dropped $2m on the Astros to win $9m at +450 odds at Caesars Sportsbook. He placed the wager prior to the franchise’s best-of-five American League Divisional Series (ALDS) against the Minnesota Twins.
customers of McIngvale’s Gallery Furniture store who have spent over $3,000 will get their money back
The Texan makes monster sports bets to hedge his store’s promotional exposure. Should the Astros retain the World Series, customers of McIngvale’s Gallery Furniture store who have spent over $3,000 will get their money back.
So far, so good
The Astros are 2-1 up on the Twins in the ALDS and +165 favorites with BetMGM to win Game 4, which is good for McIngvale as he also bet $1m at Caesars on +1100 odds before the playoffs started, according to the LVRJ.
Standing in the way of free money and a betting jackpot is, however, the Championship Series, and a potential clash with state rivals and on/off favorites for the fall series, the Texas Rangers. Odds for the Rangers to win the World Series spiked when the side took a 2-0 lead over the Baltimore Orioles in the ALDS. It ended 3-0.
Can Mack strike twice?
First, the Astros have to beat the Twins at Target Field in Game 4.
Do that and they’re into the Championship Series and Mattress Mack should sleep easier, trusting the Astros to win back-to-back titles and get him close to pocketing the record $75m Houston made him when they won the World Series last year.
