Midfield Madness Slot
The great thing about football is that it’s all on pretty much all year round. Someone somewhere is playing the beautiful game. So, it makes sense to have more football slot games.
Midfield Madness isn’t one of your more expensive games to play, but still offers plenty of opportunities for bonuses as well as free spins.
Football and Fruit Frenzy
Football and fruit are two things you wouldn’t necessarily see together. The background image is of a stadium, then you have the crowds, the photographer, the stands and the stewards. The main parts of the pitch and players are covered by the reels.
The name of Midfield Madness could apply to any number of sports, but the name on the screen goes with a football and the World Cup trophy to spell it out. The bonuses are highlighted on the top corners of the screen with further detail on the Paytable, which is where you’ll also find the diagrams for the paylines.
Although the 3 reels are neat, the symbols are actually rather large so they do jump out at you. There’s no atmospheric crowd sounds, which is a shame. It would be nice to hear some whistles, some chanting in the background or the sounds of running.
Rather oddly, there are fruits among the symbols. It is rather odd as there isn’t an obvious connection. And there are plenty of symbols you could use. A whistle, a linesman’s flag, football boots, a team strip, a referee, a goal net and the crowd are just some that come to mind.
Spin When You’re Winning
The maverick style continues with the reels being revealed in order of 1-9, as well as with the value of the symbols. Top of the scoreboard are 7s, with bars of 1, 2 and 3 next in line.
The football and trophy image is worth more than the fruits. It’s also odd that cherries are the only symbol to have any value for either 1, 2 or 3. It’s useful that any bar is worth x8, but it does seem a strange mix even so.
The five green buttons are common for Omega Gaming and do fit well with the green of the pitch. When deciding how much to bet you can choose between the Bet One, which goes from number 1-8, or with the 8 Lines box, when you can go up in sets of 8 until 40. It avoids the plus/minus buttons, though as the range isn’t too wide, it’s easy enough to use.
While pressing Max Button means you are at the limit for the lines you are betting for, you can increase the bet when using the coin worth. These values cover 0.1, 0.2, 0.5, 0.10, 0.25, 0.50 and 1. All are in euros, as with the rest of the game.
There is less flexibility with the Auto Play, which only ends when you run out of funds. While a fast pace is usually a good thing, when playing automatically it is a little too quick.
A mixture of bars can match, a mixture of fruits win big and only the total winnings show, even if more than one line can win at one time.
The Cherry on Top of the Bonuses
There are no Wildcards or Scatters, which is a shame, but there are still plenty of bonuses. And in a wacky style that incorporates the uniqueness of the game. This includes the 9 Free Spins occurring when four footballs occur on reels 2, 4, 6 and 8. That should set you on a nice winning streak.
If you get each of the cherries, bananas, oranges and plums, you’ll get the Full Fruit Bonus. This means you get a x16 of your initial bet.
While cherries and plums may be way the same for 3 of a kind, but worth less than bananas and more than oranges, there is a prize for getting the same 4 in all 4 corners. Corners are useful in football after all. You’ll be celebrating like you hit the back of the net if you get that x25 bonus. Feel free to choreograph your own version of the dab move too.
Back of the Net
This game isn’t perfect. It doesn’t make enough use of the various elements within football and could do with better sound effects and more options on the Auto Play.
Changing those would create be a good start. That would make it easier for its maverick bonuses to stand out and highlight its nifty prizes. There’s more than enough here for Midfield Madness to turn it around by full time.
