Burlesque Queen Slot
In the last decade, largely thanks to the world famous Dita Von Teese, burlesque performance has become very popular. A higher brow, less seedy form of a striptease, the performances hark back to the golden era of the 40s and 50s, with performers often styled for that age. It’s all big curled hair, red lipstick, feathers and sequined dresses.
The most famous burlesque theatre in history was the Moulin Rouge in Paris, which was captured in a film by the same name. Now Playson have picked the Moulin Rouge burlesque theme as the subject of one of their video slots, with a 5 reel, 3 line and 21 payline format. A new slot launched in 2016, we’re eager to see Playson’s vision of French burlesque.
Grab a Seat at the Moulin Rouge
The execution of the theme here is very high quality; the cartoonish characters look both convincingly burlesque and French, with the leading blonde character looking much like a blonde Jessica Rabbit. A short intro with the perfect music for both the theme and era leads you into a dark and atmospheric club scene.
There’s a burly bouncer, a mustachioed waiter and the perfect dark, atmospheric setting. From the deep red curtains, the old fashioned stage surrounding the reels and the tables and chairs in the foreground, the scene has definitely been set. The bonus games are just as fitting, with a dancer lying on a couch and a dancer’s dressing table with appropriate accessories. 10/10 here to Playson for theme execution.
The Technical Stuff
This is a 5 reel, 3 line game with 21 paylines available. It features both a Wild, which substitutes for any symbol apart from the Scatter and consists of a portrait of a brunette dancer, or a separate Bonus Wild featuring another brunette dancer. The Scatter here is the windmill, a symbol associated with the Moulin Rouge.
Other symbols consist of other dancers, the waiter, the burly bouncer and more typical letters including K, J and Q. The RTP rate here is estimated at 96.3%. In terms of betting amounts, the minimum bet is 0.21 and the maximum is 105.00.
The jackpot on offer is 500x your stake and is released when players line up 5 of either the dancer Wilds, the blonde dancer symbol or the photographer symbol. So plenty of symbols here offering the chance to hit the jackpot.
Features
Apart from the Wild and the Scatter, additional features here include a ‘Gamble mode’ and a Bonus game. The Gamble mode is activated following every winning combination you land, and gives you the chance to double your winnings, but can be exited using the back button.
If you do choose to play in gamble mode, then you are presented with a dancer displaying two bouquets. You must select one of the bouquets and if you choose the correct one, you double what you’ve just won. The bonus game is triggered when you land 3 or more of the windmill Scatter symbol and brings you to a dressing table where you can select items to receive prizes including free spins, coins, a multiplier or activation of free spins.
There are up to 24 free spins up for grabs, giving you those extra chances to land yourself a winning combination, or even the jackpot. You potential prizes are detailed in the pay table below.
Throw on That Feather Boa and Spin
We love the attention to details given to the Moulin Rouge Burlesque theme here. While it may not appeal to every player, we have no doubt it will prove a hit with fans of burlesque and a number of other male players. From the intro, to the symbols to the music and sounds, this game really transports you a different era, and a different country! The RTP rate is decent, beating some other slots which hover at 95% and there’s a great range of wager amounts, meaning you can bet as little as 21c/p.
So grab a seat at the Moulin Rouge and see what your spins can win you.
