Aztec's Fortune Slot
There are themes for slot machines, and then there are themes for slot machines. Then there are themes for slot machines that are really, honestly, genuinely relevant and well thought through. This is one of the latter.
Breathe a sigh of relief, then, and prepare to step way, way back in time to an era that almost glittered under the scorching sun of the Americas. If there’s one thing the Aztec’s were known for, it’s their appreciation for that most precious of all metals, and as such Aztec’s Fortune, a five-reel slot machine from Portomaso Gaming, is pretty authentic. After all, as a player you love gold too, because gold converts into beautiful money.
Or at least that’s the idea…
On the whole then there are way more contrived excuses to bring out an online slot machine, and the whole jungle ruins thing does make this feel pretty adventurous compared to a lot of rival gamers. However, this isn’t the only Aztec themed option out there, but it’s a surprisingly underused theme compared to many. As such you can’t help but welcome this one to the market.
Ancient Artworks
The five reels all have different symbols on them. These come in various forms, such is the object of the game, and some of the best include a Day Of The Dead mask, bird’s head, the beautiful princess, and some crudely crafted numbers. Oh, and there’s a skeleton too, which is pretty cool.
These might not be the sharpest graphics in the online gambling directory, nor the coolest characters, but they serve their purpose well- you can spot them a mile off. More so, thanks to the sort of tiled/stone effect on each panel, they bring the theme even more to the fore than it already was. Not a bad effort then.
Setting off on the Adventure
It’s a jungle out there, filled with cannibalistic tribes, dangerous wild animals, gold-hungry civilizations, and a load of unexpected surprises heading your way. As such it pays to be as organised as possible before stepping out on the muddy trail.
The first thing you need to do is adjust the size of your coin. By doing this you’ll change how much each of your bets is worth. The more you’re willing to bet, the greater the payout is for that particular bet. Like an explorer in the rainforest, though, it pays to be a little cautious- last thing you want to do is go all in, plummet down the rapids of lost bets, and wind up with no map. Or money.
You’ll also need to change the number of lines you’re playing with. For Aztec’s Fortune you have the option of playing between one and 25 paylines at a time. The more paylines there are in play, the more opportunities there are for you to win individual bets, although this doesn’t necessarily mean the more each win will pay out.
Deep in the Jungle
Once you have adjusted your bet it’s time to head off properly, and click spin to get those five reels rolling. The principle of the game is exactly the same as all online slot machines – you want to match up threes, fours and fives of a kind- each symbol corresponds to a different value, and the more of each symbol you spin on one go the higher that value.
Like any classic gamblers, there’s a little more too it than that. Although Aztec’s Fortune doesn’t have a Bonus Game feature, there are Wild symbols included here- these are really helpful, as they can be swapped in when you’re missing one or more of another symbol, thus completing a winning combination. The only card this cannot be swapped in for is the Scatter symbol, which opens up Free Spins for you to play without risking any money. Not a bad deal, really.
Sense the Adventure
On the face of it, Aztec’s Fortune doesn’t have that much going for it in the 21st Century world of high tech gamblers. There’s no Bonus Game, and the fancy animation techniques some of the more complex and expensive games offer are also sorely lacking.
Having said all that, we still can’t help but enjoy it. Although this is as far removed from stepping out into the jungle proper for yourself – in real life – you can’t help but feel a slight sense of adventure when the ancient runes and rituals begin to make an appearance. On the whole then, a pretty strong option.
