Olympic Gold Slots
Ambitious gamblers wouldn’t settle for anything else than the gold medal, and this is precisely what Olympic Gold is willing to offer them. This video slot game from R. Franco is sticking to a very retro design, with a large reel set and ultra-simple rules to make sure that every player can participate and get his or her chance to hit the jackpot.
Olympic Gold is a medium variance slot game with just 1 payline and no specific bonus at all. All you have to do is place your bets and see in what position you end up in the race. If that sounds simple to you, it’s because it is. Does Olympic Gold has enough to offer modern gamblers? Read our full review of the game to find out.
All Eyes on the Gold Medal
Olympic Gold could have been taking place in a grandiose stadium, packed with supporters. But as it turns out, the R. Franco developers have decided to stick to a classic and retro atmosphere instead. The result is a simple, metallic slot machine on a black background with the reels framed by gold medals.
Overall, Olympic Gold is a very low-key slot game without anything much to look at at all. Retro slots are fine, but we really felt that something was missing in Olympic Gold. Adding a few more visual features would have helped make the whole experience more memorable for players. Let’s just move on to the gameplay straight away.
Highest Podium Positon
Olympic Gold is just as basic in terms of gameplay as it is basic with its graphics. The 5 reels of the game support a single payline in the centre, on which you need to try and line as many identical symbols as you can in order to win cash prizes. You can bet from 0.01 to 0.50 credits per spin, and the maximum reward you can hope to win is 750 credits.
Despite its single-payline layout, Olympic Gold has an average volatility and you should be able to score cash prizes more frequently than in most retro slot game with the same rules. The entire paytable contains bar signs of different sizes and colourful 7s. Bar signs can be combined with one another, and so can 7s. Try to create a multi-coloured 7 combination to unlock the 1000 credit jackpot of Olympic Gold.
The Games Continue
As far as simple retro slots are concerned, Olympic Gold is fairly average. You can try other slots such as Oooh Matron by Parlay or Purple Hot from Playtech to find the same sort of easy gameplay. Note that Olympic Gold does provide players with 5 reels to bet on, which is not always the case with the majority of retro slots.
For a more modern take on the same theme, check out Olympic Slot from Gamesys. In this game, you will get 9 paylines and up to 30 free spins to win at any time. This Gamesys creation does a better job at creating a fun environment inspired by the Olympic Games, with higher prizes at stake as well.
Not Enough to Please Most Gamblers
Olympic Gold felt a bit like a missed opportunity to us right from the beginning. This slot game could have been quite epic, and despite some decent rewards available for high rollers we didn’t really find it a very compelling gambling experience. Adding some bonuses to the gameplay, even just a few free spins, would have definitely helped put the game on the map.
Overall, Olympic Gold is definitely not the best choice you can make from the R. Franco portfolio. Games like Eastern Dreams of even the retro Gnomos Mix are much more likely to make a lasting impression on most players. Olympic Gold, on the other hand, will probably be forgotten quite fast.
