Icy World Slot
It’s not that we’re not into the name in any way, shape or form. More just that we think the developers could have come up with something a little better for this triumph of a 5-reel, 25-payline gambler from 777igt.
After all, Icy World doesn’t really stand out as much as many of its competitor titles. Which is a huge shame, because it really does deserve some attention. From the moment the screen loads up, you can tell this is a really polished game that has had plenty of care and attention put into it. From the snowflake animations in the background, to the cute and cuddly, but at times very lifelike, graphics of the pictures on the reels themselves, the whole thing is clearly the product of professionals.
Top marks for first impressions, then. Thankfully, it goes well beyond simply looking the part, and plays the part very well, too. Read on if you want to know more.
It’s Getting Cold in Here
OK, so Icy World is a 5-reel, 25-payline gambler that pays out big, if you can handle the temperature. Basically, the idea is that you match up like pictures in twos, threes, fours or fives on the reels, along active paylines. Do that and you’ll realise what we mean by ‘big’, albeit the actual amount depends on a number of variables.
The first of which is the specific pictures you match. At the most basic end, these are letters – A, K, Q, J – the number 10, and then an arctic seal, arctic fox, and polar bear. All the creatures are drawn with a kind of CGI manner, meaning they look exceptional. On top of those, you also have three jackpot cards. To win with these you need to match up five – four or three simply won’t cut it.
The Mega Jackpot is (obviously) the most valuable, and looks a bit like the front of a tiara with a previous blue jewel embedded in it. The second is a brooch with a red jewel. The third is a ring with a green stone in the middle. These last two are the Mini and Minor Jackpots, and are lower in value than the first but still offering plenty to get excited about.
Wrap up Properly
When bracing yourself for any ridiculously inhospitable climate, for example the Arctic Circle, it’s important to make sure you have the right clothes on. Or in this case, the correct settings in place to maximise what you stand to win.
Icy World uses 25 paylines, and these are very important. Only winning combinations of pictures on active paylines will be counted and rewarded, so basically the more you have in play the more chances you have of winning. It’s also possible to affect how much you stand to pick up for each win too- in the bottom of the screen, where the payline controls are, you will also see a Bet Per Line reading. Increase this and you will get more for each win, decrease it and you’ll get less.
Obviously, if you’re playing with a lot of paylines and a high bet value your money isn’t going to last as long as if you are more conservative with the betting. Think on, then.
Life Below Zero
It’s worth noting there are some special pictures that will crop up from time to time. These can dramatically impact on the course of the game and so you want to pay attention to them.
First up, there’s a snowman. This friendly little guy is a Scatter card. That means he will multiply any win lines, by an amount that reflects how many of him you managed to land on the reels. Next up is the lollipop – the Free. Basically, this will payout free spins, again dependent on how many you landed. A Bonus Game will be triggered when you land a woolly mammoth on reels three, four or five, which is also a lot of fun.
Finally, the happy-looking penguin is a Wild card, and can substitute for any of the ‘standard’ pictures to make a winning combination (so everything other than the Bonus, the Free, the Scatter, and the jackpots).
Ice, Nice, Baby
Icy World is a really fun game to play and easy to pick up. It’s a lot more polished than many 5-reel gamblers out there, filled with slick, highly polished graphics and some great little touches of animation. There are a lot of layers to the game too, which means you’ll want to come back time and time again – the Bonus round is particularly compelling, and the inclusion of jackpots always helps increase the excitement.
On the whole, then, this is about as good as online 5-reelers get, so our advice is to get involved (and get out your digital bookmark).
