Forest Nymph Slot Machine
Imagine if somebody based a game off Henry David Thoreau’s seminal work Walden. What words, sounds and images would come to mind? Perhaps the chirping of birds resting upon the branches of trees gently swaying in the breeze? Maybe complimented with the gentle flow of water from a nearby creek. You may picture the sound of crunching leaves and sticks on the ground as you lie down and feel the tenuous pall of sunlight gently caress your face as the light breaks through the canopy.
While all the above is probably a bit too descriptive, it almost certainly describes what the folks at Casino Technology had in mind when they decided to go ahead and make Forest Nymph. This developer rarely serves up a dud with regards to their games, so how will Forest Nymph stack up in the grand scheme of things?
See the Word for the Trees
As is commonly the case with their video slots games, Forest Nymph is thematically rich and stylistically vivid. The imagery is constructed as such that you almost feel transported to a mysterious forest when you play. A bit similar in vein to their other game Bavarian Forest, but still very much distinct in character and tone, Forest Nymph draws more upon high fantasy themes and Greek mythology for its inspiration. Gold, legendary forest creatures (like the eponymous nymph), and animals that would be commonly found in such an environment are featured here. The background appears to take place in a mysterious forest experiencing the first traces of light emerging from the dawn, just before the dense fog has burned away.
Complementing this setting are the sound effects and music to go with it, which merge together in a harmonious symphony of sensation that risks carrying you away into a distant fantasy land. As an added plus, the game runs really smoothly, something we can’t say for some of the other video slots games we’ve played recently.
Forging Ahead Through the Forest
Let’s get to the technical side of things. Forest Nymph has a typical setup for a video slots game. The game uses a 5x3 reel setup with 15 paylines available for play. On the bottom (from left to right) are buttons to enter the game’s sub-menu, options to change the game’s total bet size, paylines and coin denomination in play, and finally the spin button itself. Smaller buttons exist on the bottom to toggle on or off the volume, sound effects and/or full-screen mode. As is true with Casino Technology’s other video slots offerings, you can use the auto-spinner feature as much as you’d like here too.
Out on a Limb
A scatter icon and wild symbols are in play, and you also have the opportunity to win free spins. This gives you quite a few options to rake in winnings beyond merely winning the jackpot. There are no bonus games/rounds or progressive jackpots, but there is a score multiplier.
Furthermore, Forest Nymph offers a really interesting feature if you get smaller winning spins. You are given the option to “double up”, whereupon you select a card and attempt to guess its suit or color. Guess right and you can double or even quadruple your winnings. Guess wrong and you get nothing, so as you can gather this game is perfect for the risk-taker. Should you not want to risk losing all of your winnings for that spin, you can also opt to bet only half of your winnings.
Reaching the Tree Tops
The verdict is clear; Forest Nymph is as entrancing as the creatures of Greek legend. Beautifully designed, richly detailed, and offering plenty of opportunities to turn your cents into bucks, we’d be lying if we said that this game was not worth playing. The lack of a bonus round or bonus game didn’t bother me at all; the existence of the “double up” feature filled that gap quite nicely.
The only thing against this game is that it is a bit lacking in paylines, most video slots games have at least twenty or more so Forest Nymph falls slightly short in that department. But that really is only a trivial complaint. We can’t really even find anything to say about this game that is negative. If you haven’t played this game already, don’t waste any more time reading this review, make Forest Nymph the next video slots game you spin the reels of either as a slot that pays real money or in demo mode
