Persian Glory Slots
Ancient Empires has got to be the most popular theme for both arcade and online slot machines; be it the Greeks, the Romans, the Mayans or in this case, the Persians, there seems to be a deep fascination with the rich empires of old. Persian dynasties originated in Iran and started as early as 3,200BC.
Their rich history and stunning artefacts make them an obvious choice for a theme, with the most commercial film they’ve inspired being Aladdin, which included all the gold coins, Persian rugs and sultans associated with the dynasty. Persian Glory from Cayetano is a 5-reel, 20-payline slot offering a jackpot of 500 coins.
Admire the Riches of Ancient Persia
The backdrop to the reels here is a sandy desert overlooking a valley full of Persian palaces and buildings. The artwork here is really well done and the quality of the graphics is also quite high, although this isn’t a 3D slot.
The reels are flanked by some stunning columns featuring gold horses and we also have a collection of theme-appropriate symbols in the shape of what look like a Persian Prince and Princess, a traditional sword, a jewelled drinking cup, a shield and a pot of gold.
The music is also an atmospheric middle-Eastern style and when spinning the reels they also make theme-fitting stringed instrument sounds, with a win being greeted by a more up-tempo drumming tune. Our only disappoint here is the lack of any famous Persian rugs!
The lack of a bonus game means there are no additional nods to the theme on offer but the character wilds of a Persian Prince and Princess do lock in place until a win is landed, expanding if another wild lines up with them. This is a nice feature which pushes you to keep spinning until you land a win.
The Secrets of the Sands
This 5 reel, 20 payline slot has a jackpot of 500 coins on offer, with coin values ranging from 0.2 to 1,000. Our disappointments here are the lack of a bonus game, which the theme offers plenty of scope for and also the low RTP rate of 92.41%, which definitely places this in the lowest bracket in terms of returns to player. This is something likely to put the more experienced players off. It may just sound like a few percentile, but when you’re betting big stakes that 5% makes all the difference if you don’t land any big wins.
The only real feature on offer here are the locking Wilds, which resemble a Persian Prince and Princess. Once you land one, it locks until a winning combination occurs and should another wild crop up during the following spins, it also locks to expand the wild. This a nice touch which adds a bit of excitement to the spins but unfortunately this is the only feature there is. Despite the good graphics, there is no bonus game on offer.
Other symbols consist of a sword, a drinking cup, a shield and a pot of gold coins along with the regular characters of A, K, J, Q and 10. The full symbol values are listed in the paytable below.
These Persians Aren’t so Rich After All
While we can appreciate the theme and artwork of this game, unfortunately it is let down by its lack of features and its very low RTP rate. Ancient Persia is a potentially great theme, with bonus games which could feature sword fights, sandstorms, snake charmers and many other scenes associated with the Persians.
What a pity that Cayetano didn’t take advantage of this and add some juicy bonus games to the slot. What we have instead is a well designed but lacklustre slot game, with only a locking Wild feature to redeem it. Add to that a low RTP rate and unfortunately this game has little going for it.
Visit the sands of Persia, but don’t expect to be in for the most exciting, or profitable play experience.
