Time Warp is a pleasant slot game characterised by excellent, Pixar-esque graphics, quirky animations, click-clacking reels and well-paying symbols. The title also includes no less than three symbols with special properties. The theoretical return-to-player average, meanwhile, is 95.06%.
Intro Film
Before you start spinning, you’ll be treated to a fun little intro showing an inventor designing the Time Warp reel grid. When he’s added the finishing touches, the inventor hops into a time travelling mobile, before returning with a pile of loot in his arms. Ignore the cynical thought that the video is designed to plant the seed in your mind that you’ll win a bundle (spoiler alert: it is), and it’s easy to appreciate the effort involved.
Reels and Stakes
The 5x3 grid is housed in the inventor’s lab, with pistons, pressure gauges and bulbs surrounding the reels. The inventor stands off to the side, and the attention to design detail is such that he visibly moves with each breath he takes. There really is no expense spared.
Set your total stake using the tab in the lower left corner. You can play from between 0.20 to 200 per spin. You can also play up to 25 automatic spins. The game includes a Spin and Stop function, whereby you can stop the reels whenever you wish.
Amusingly, you can click on the clocks which dangle on golden chains at the side of the reels. They don’t perform any specific function, but when you click on one, it goes shooting off the screen with a whizz-bang, only to return a moment later.
Line Pay-Outs
There are ten ‘regular’ symbols in Time Warp, including a bunch of test tubes, a wooden robot, a golden globe, a radio and a pile of books. There are also playing card symbols, from 10 to A. All lines pay left side to right only, and payline wins are multiplied by the gamer’s stake-per-line.
Of the regular symbols, the wooden robot pays best, granting 45 for three, 450 for four and 900 for five. Next, it’s the test tubes, which pay 35, 350 and 700, and then it’s the golden globe, which pays 25, 250 and 500. The playing card icons, as you might expect, occupy the lower end of the spectrum, granting just 60 for five aces.
Special Symbols
There are no less than three special icons in Time Warp. They are the inventor, the bonus carriage clock and the free spins symbol, represented by what looks like a tennis ball stuffed inside a glass jar.
The carriage clock bonus triggers the bonus games, where you can win up to 500x your stake. The wild symbol replaces all others, except the bonus and free spins, to help you form winning paylines. It’s also linked to some generous sums in the pay-table, including 100 for three, 1,000 for four and 10,00 for five. When the wild is utilised in a winning combination, the inventor – who bears a passing resemblance to Albert Einstein – starts scribing an equation on the screen.
The free spins icons, meanwhile, grant ten free goes if you land three, four or five on an active payline. Auto nudges pay extra wins, and additional free spins can be triggered during free ones.
Bonus Rounds
There are three separate bonus rounds, during which you can win great cash awards. In one bonus game you need to open large wooden chests to (hopefully) find treasure within. In another you use a laser to turn coal into gemstones, and in the third you help the robot collect a bunch of golden eggs.
Some video slots don’t even bother with bonus games, so the fact that there are three in Time Warp is to be commended.
Standing the Test of Time
Time Warp is a clever new video slot, a game that doesn’t pay the slightest regard to the origins of the genre. There are no flashing lights, no corny sound effects, no BARs or cherries. There are, instead, excellent graphics, bonus games galore and a brace of special symbols. You won’t be disappointed.
