Overdrive 3 Reel Online Slot Machine Review
3 Reel slots once had a reputation for being the ‘Ladies games’. The thinking was that the guys played craps and blackjack, while their wives enjoyed the slots. Of course, 50 years on slots have evolved beyond measure. Overdrive looks to redress the balance by creating a 3 reel slot based on the macho world of motor racing. This is a simple game with 3 win lines and one wild symbol the only notable features. Like all Saucify 3-reel games, the attention to detail in both the visuals and the audio make all the difference.
The look of this slot is dominated by the word ‘Overdrive’, which is in all-caps covering the bottom left corner of the screen. The reels are above this, and do include the detailed shading work which gives them a curved appearance – like the mechanical slots of old. To the right you will find the pay table. At the top are the big prizes for 3 of the cars on each of the 3 win lines, below that the other prizes for symbols like trophies, chequered flags and tires.
There are no car or racing sounds at all in this game. Instead the audio is the same as most Saucify 3 reel slots. There is an electronic undulating tune while the reels spin, with a mechanical whirring noise and clicks when the reels stop. Wins get a short electronic beeping sequence. In the background is an ambient casino noises loop – which you will really only hear between spins. This includes wins from nearby slots, chatter (you cannot hear what is being said) and laughter. I am not sure whether this adds to the atmosphere with this game or is just slightly annoying.
Symbols themselves are plain though nicely drawn. These include a hot dog and soda, as well as things like tires and tools.
Setup and Play for Overdrive
There are 3 win lines for this slot, top, middle and bottom horizontally from left to right. You get to choose how many to play before you spin. I strongly advise you to stick with all 3, and to lower your coin value if you need to based on this. The reason is that the highest pay-out on this slot comes from getting 3 car symbols on the 3rd line. This is proportionally that much bigger than the line 1 and 2 pay-outs (7000 for line 3, 3500 for line 2, 1500 for line 1) that it makes a real difference to your overall returns.
The game I played let you spin up to $3 max, though I am sure this is on the lower side and other casinos will let you play for more.
In addition to completing the biggest wins, the red car symbol is wild in this game. It will substitute for any other symbol to complete a winning combination. Unlike some Saucify slots, there are no additional multipliers attached to the wild.
Regular prizes are topped by the trophy; this is worth 500 coins for 3. Next comes the chequered flag (300), tires (150), tool (50), hot dog and soda (25) and any combination of them (5). With 3 lines in play, the wins do come in reasonably often. Only the highest win is paid for on any one line.
Overdrive 3 Reel Slot – Conclusion
If you enjoy the pure form of slots gaming on 3 reel machines, then Overdrive is an entertaining choice. The racing theme is not one that usually comes up in this type of game – where the more traditional 7’s and bars tend to dominate. To be fair, other than the symbols there is nothing particularly tied to racing in the sounds or game-play. The big potential pay-out (7000 coins) and wild symbol making up plenty of extra wins does balance this somewhat. I enjoyed this one, and recommend you take it for a spin soon.
