Runaway Train Online Slot Machine Review
Trains are not the usual theme of 3 reel slots, let alone runaway ones. Slots software house Saucify has created a solid yet entertaining game based on this – with the tie-in to traditional slots being that the train is loaded up with the (gold) bars. Not only is the reproduction of a mechanical game very realistic, there are chances to win big too. The train symbol is wild, making up wins with any other symbol. If you get 3 of these across any of the 5 win lines, you’ll get a big pay-out, with the top prize 5000 coins for 3 trains on line 5.
The look of this game is dominated by the train graphic across the bottom part of the screen. Above this are the 3 reels. As is usual on most Saucify slots, a lot of care has gone into reproducing the curve and slight ‘bounce’ of the old mechanical games. Top right is a confusing looking grid of trains; this shows the different pay-outs for 3 trains over the 5 different win-lines. Below that is the regular pay table layout.
Sounds are shared with all of the Saucify 3-reel slots and include a distinctive background noise track on a continual loop. This recreates the sound of an old slots hall, complete with laughing, wins from nearby machines and chatter that is too faint to make out. This is a little crazy sounding for me, though I will admit it does add to the authentic feel of the game in its own way. The whirr of the reels, electronic beeps and satisfying ‘clunks’ when the reels stop are all very realistic.
Symbols are dominated by the bars in this game. As a nice touch, instead of being black the bars (single, double and triple) are gold – fitting in with the train coming from a gold-mine theme. Aside from the train, the only other symbol is the red 7’s.
Setup and Play for Runaway Train
This slot has 5 win lines. These are the 3 horizontal lines top, middle and bottom – plus 2 diagonals starting at the top and bottom of the left hand reel. You can select any number of lines, though with the biggest pay-out for the 5th line, it makes more sense to stay with 5 and lower your coin amount instead. On the game I played the biggest coin size was $1, with $5 the max spin. Other casinos may allow you to spin for more. Auto-spin is available and can be configured for up to 100 spins. Find out more about staking strategies here.
The biggest pay-out is reserved for the trains. The amount you win depends on which of the 5 win-lines you get 3 of these on. Line one is worth 1000 coins, line 2 1500, line 3 2000, line 4 2500 with a jump to 5000 coins for the 5th line. This symbol is also wild, and substitutes for any of the other symbols to complete a win. Unlike some other Saucify 3-reel games there is no double or quadruple available for using this wild.
Regular wins are headed by the 7’s. 3 of these will get you 150 coins. Next the bars pay 80 for 3 of the triples, 50 for 3 doubles, 15 for 3 singles and 4 for 3 mixed. With 5 win lines in play you will sometimes get more than one win at a time – most commonly the mixed bars.
Runaway Train – Conclusion
Saucify have a lot of very solid 3 reel slot games – and this one is a great example of an entertaining theme that manages to maintain the authentic game-play of the old mechanical fruit machines. The 5 win lines and wild train symbol keep things more interesting than for many 3-reel games. Add to this the chance to win up to 5000 coins for a single spin, and you can start to see the appeal of this slot. If you enjoy 3-reel games, then this is certainly one to take for a spin.
